They in themselves are devoted to trying to bring the government down; and yet in spite of themselves their opposition serves a purpose in making the government better than it would be in the absence of opposition as tyrannies attest. In the same way the Satan will oppose Job and yet will do so in a way that strangely and paradoxically will eventually be seen to serve the purposes of the Lord.
Presumably this language of God sitting surrounded by a heavenly council is anthropomorphic language. God does not literally sit at the head of a council any more than he literally has hands or feet.
This kind of language is used of God because we can understand it, to accommodate to our limitations. But what does it mean? Broadly speaking there are three models for understanding the spiritual government of the world. The first is polytheism or animism, in which the universe is governed if that is not too strong a word by a multiplicity of gods, goddesses, and spirits, none of whom is perfect and some of which are exceedingly evil.
There is no absolutely supreme god or goddess, although some are generally more powerful than others. The end result is a universe filled with anxiety, in which we may never know in advance which spiritual power will come out on top in a particular situation, in which different deities have to be appeased and kept friendly, much as a citizen in a corrupt society may offer bribes to different officials, hoping he or she gets the bribes right in their amounts and their recipients.
This is the world of animism and of Hinduism. Each person is his or her own god or goddess. Who knows who will win? At its simplest this view becomes a dualism in which the world is governed by the outcome of an ongoing contest between God and the devil, who are thought of as pretty much equal and opposite powers battling it out for supremacy, like the Empire and the Federation in Star Wars. The devil is perceived as having an autonomy and agency independent of God.
Some Christians are practical dualists in this way. The second is a kind of absolute monism, in which the world is governed absolutely and simply by one God.
He had declared that no enemy could stand against them, and that he would fight their battles. He had pledged to bring down every stronghold, to bring them into the land, and to make them overcomers against all their enemies. On ten occasions, the Lord had brought Israel to a place of testing.
And on all ten occasions, he had delivered them miraculously. Yet, every time, Israel failed in their faith. Now they were about to face a final test. Ten of twelve spies came back with a discouraging message that infected the entire congregation.
But the land is filled with giants who are able to crush us. We looked like grasshoppers in their eyes. And the cities are impenetrable, like fortresses. Their walls reach all the way up to heaven.
Keep in mind, God had already given the command to go forward and possess the land. The people listened to the evil spies, rather than trusting in the word God had spoken. And they spent the whole night wringing their hands, wishing they were dead.
God has deceived us. Joshua and Caleb had been among that crew of spies, and they objected to the report. We can win! The Lord has dismantled them, and his presence is with us. And how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? What will it take for them to accept my Word?
We live in a time when the Word is available to more people than ever, when the gospel can be heard at any time through mass media. How often do they turn to the arm of flesh instead, seeking to deliver themselves from a crisis God himself has orchestrated? Now the Lord was ready to disinherit and destroy them. Do you see what God was saying here? God suspended his eternal purpose for Israel for another thirty-eight years. I have heard that you have a fullength on the way.
In which way will that differ or remind of your EP? The other thing that will be different is that there will be a standard of excellence regarding the whole CD that you would not hear on the demo. Again, I think the demo is pretty good sonic wise, in fact I think it is better that most demo recording you hear. But this time it will be the best possible quality of recording I can put out for the money.
I believe the overall style will be the same. Tell me about some tunes on the new album and what they are about. Burning Desire: A song about sexual lust. God has called us to live a holy life, not one filled with lust.
More of You: How we need less of us and more of God. So Far Away: How we drift away from God, but yet Jesus is there every moment, like a lighthouse, to bring us back to Him. These are just a few. I think one of the overall theme's on the new release is about just having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Giving our flesh, will, emotions and lives totally to Jesus. One thing that I like with your band is your biblical lyrics.
Are lyrics very important to you? The goal of the new album is to present Jesus to not only the Christian community, but more importantely to the secular community in a way that they can relate to.
If you check out our demo, the lyrics are full on in my opinion. The Bible says that the power of life and death are in the tongue, in the lyrics of the songs. That's pretty heavy! It is my desire that the lyrics on the new material are so annoited that as soon as someone picks up a copy they are draw to it, like a magnet.View the profiles of people named Faith Williams.
