Since relievers warmed up in a nearby pen, the term bullpen was created. Casey Stengel suggested the term might have been derived from managers getting tired of their relief pitchers " shooting the bull " in the dugout and were therefore sent elsewhere, where they wouldn't be a bother to the rest of the team -- the bullpen.
How serious he was when he made this claim is not clear. The relief pitchers warmed up beyond the left-field fence. Out there in the same area was a stockyard or pen that had bulls in it.

All other fences become null and void when a cows in heat. Should I keep them seperate or will they work out pecking order fast enough.
I wouldn't bother with separating, but then I wouldn't pen them either. They fight far less if they have enough room to get away from each other. It also is important that they not have to compete for food, water or shelter. There will be minor dust ups, but the dominate male will step in and break things up if it gets out of hand. Seems the bull's decided to have a cage match inside it the other day and levelled one fence and broke three six by six posts off at the ground. I'm thinking of replacing it with something a lot stronger.
I like the 20 foot pipe and might even build the whole thing out of 2" stock but if I do I don't see why I'd need so many rungs. But maybe I do. Undoubtedly these midnight cage matches get pretty intense. Last edited by Jogeephus on Fri Apr 10, pm, edited 1 time in total. Well, if ranching's so hard, why do we do it?
